About US
In 2000, I started working with and selling native plants as a hobby. I had more of some plant or other than I needed, so I sold the extra at the Swap Meet. A backyard business was born. I was known at the Swap Meet as the "Cactus Lady" my husband, Joe, is the "Cactus Guy" In April, 2004, I officially became Little River Nursery & kactus kart. As the business grew, Joe stepped in and gave invaluable assistance whenever it was asked for. In 2005, Joe took over the nursery as I took over growing grand kids while Mom works. The business has since become just Little River Nursery.
Most of our plants are grown in Cochise County, AZ , for Cochise County. We specialize in a variety of native and drought tolerant plants, the majority of which we have grown from cuttings or seed. Some of our inventory does come from other nurseries with similar climates. Each year our inventory changes as we add and delete plants based on what we find does or does not do well here. Or, more often, which seeds and cuttings grew or didn't grow for us. We grow our plants in native soil with a little added compost and we attempt to grow things without a greenhousre as much as possible. That way our plants go right from our soil to your soil without shock and they are already hardened off.
For the last several years we have sold our products at the local Swap Meet and Farmer's Markets. Since our overhead is low, we try to keep our prices low for our customers. Even though we make every effort to sell inexpensive, strong, healthy plants geared for our environment; due to any number of circumstances beyond our control, we do not guarantee the well-being of plants in any way once they have been accepted by the customer.
Local Landscapers
We are often asked if we know any landscapers. There are two that we refer people to, both of whom have been in the business many years.
Carlos Gamez 520-227-6175 - cell
Damon Drayfahl 520-559-2523 - cell
Both are local numbers.
October's Schedule
We will be going to the Sierra Vista Farmer's Market Thursday, October 1st, and then the Bisbee Farmer's Market Saturday, October 3rd. Saturday, October 10, we will be at the Farmer's Market in Saint David. As this market is still growing, they are looking for folks with agricultural based skills or crafts that would enjoy selling at or demonstrating at the market. For further information contact Ron Millet at 520-221-1074 or e-mail him at stdavidfarmersmarket@yahoo.com.
October will be our last month at the markets until sometime in the spring. Our newsletters will start up again either in March or April, depending on the weather and what we have blooming. To receive a copy of our newsletter, go to the bottom of this page and use the sign up form.
